Cavs and Pacers clash at the "Q"
Basketball Betting Lines
04/09/2010 -
(Sportsbook Betting Lines) - It's understandable that the top-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers
would rest some of their players before the postseason begins next weekend,
but it's important to establish some sort of rhythm entering the playoffs.
Cleveland will open a brief two-game homestand Friday versus Indiana and
Orlando, and is 35-4 at Quicken Loans Arena this season. Owners of home-court
advantage throughout the postseason, the Cavaliers have won 11 in a row at
home and are 33-2 in their last 35 home games. Since the start of the 2008-09
campaign, the Cavs are an NBA-best 74-6 at the 'Q'.
The Cavs, though, are coming off Thursday's 109-108 loss to the playoff-
hopeful Chicago Bulls at the United Center. Superstar LeBron James did not
play and Mo Williams picked up the slack with 35 points and 10 assists. Antawn
Jamison chipped in with 23 points and six rebounds for Cleveland, which has
dropped two of its last three games, and three in a row on the road.
"I knew I had to be aggressive, not just scoring, but getting guys the ball,"
said Williams of his plan in James' absence.
Jamison suffered a foot injury and is questionable for Friday.
Indiana has been playing like a playoff team lately, but will miss the
postseason for a fourth straight year. Winners of two straight and eight of
their last 10 games, the Pacers recently handed the New York Knicks a 113-105
setback on Wednesday in the finale of a four-game homestand.
Danny Granger led all scorers with 33 points and Troy Murphy finished with a
double-double with 17 points and 12 boards for Indiana, which went 3-1 on the
residency and got 15 points from Roy Hibbert.
"A lot of fire power out there tonight," Pacers head coach Jim O'Brien said
about his team's play. "When they tied the game, our guys did the necessary
things defensively. I think movement is better when you have people who can
spread to court."
The Pacers are just 8-31 away from Conseco Fieldhouse in 2009-10.
Cleveland is 3-0 against Indiana this season and is aiming for its second
sweep in three years. The Cavs have won four straight, 13 of 14 and 18 of the
past 24 matchups with the Pacers, losers of 10 straight in the Forest City.

MySportsbook.com and Kentucky Derby Offer Bonuses
The 2008 Kentucky Derby has announced a $1-million bonus for this weekend’s 134th ‘Run for the Roses’ and MySportsbook.com is doing the same.
Well, not quite $1 million, but MySportsbook.com is offering a 75% rebate for Kentucky Derby lines. Check out the exclusive horse racing bonus for all the details.
According to MySportsbook.com, the favorites for Saturday’s Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky are: Curlin (+250); Street Sense (+500); Scat Daddy (+700); Circular Quay (+750); and Nobiz Like Shobiz (+800).
Derby organizers announced this week that there will be a $1-million bonus at the 2007 Kentucky Derby odds if the first-place horse wins by more than 6 1/2 lengths – the margin of Barbaro's victory last year. The bonus would be divided Saturday among the winning trainer, jockey, owner and a charity, with each receiving 25 percent. The designated charity is the Barbaro Memorial Fund.
''It's certainly creative, it's certainly fun and it has something for the horsemen, which we always want to embrace,'' Churchill Downs president and chief executive Robert Evans said at a news conference. ''What's really cool is it will force us to remember Barbaro.''
Meanwhile, the Derby favorite – Curlin – is going against the odds this year. It's been 125 years since Apollo won after skipping his 2-year-old season, and not since Regret in 1915 has such a lightly seasoned horse worn the blanket of red roses.
Arkansas Derby winner Curlin – unbeaten in three career races – tries to overcome both those obstacles in Saturday's 133rd Derby.
''We're not running against history,'' trainer Steve Asmussen said Monday. ''We're running against who they load up.''
Six other horses have run in the Derby without benefit of 2-year-old races and with three or fewer starts. The best any of them managed was a sixth-place finish by Showing Up last year.
Asmussen dismissed suggestions that Curlin's lack of racing experience could keep him from the winner's circle.
”He exudes confidence and he's got a great presence about him,'' the trainer said. ''I feel great about the position we're in. He's not worried about anything, why should you be?''
The Kentucky Derby is at 4:04 p.m., ET Saturday.

MySportsbook.com Posts Heisman Trophy Odds
With 3,919 passing yards, 32 touchdowns and a mere seven interceptions last season, combined with a powerful South Bend Heisman legacy, odds makers at MySportsbook.com have given Notre Dame senior quarterback Brady Quinn the best Heisman Trophy odds at 5-2.
Quinn isn’t the only big man on campus this season. Oklahoma junior running back and 2004 Heisman runner-up Adrian Peterson, listed at 7-2, rushed for a combined 3,033 yards in his first two years as a college player and will give Quinn a run for his money.
This online sportsbook has also listed Troy Smith, Ohio State senior quarterback, as another strong favorite to win the 72nd Heisman Trophy. A 7-1 bet, Smith threw for 2,282 yards last season and also led the Buckeyes to a convincing 34-20 victory over Quinn and the Fighting Irish in last season’s Fiesta Bowl.
