Memphis, TN (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Seventh-seeded American Venus Williams
advanced into the quarterfinals of the $175,000 Regions Morgan Keegan
Championships and the Cellular South Cup with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over
Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki on Tuesday.
Williams returned to the court after a four-month layoff with a three-set
victory over Japan's Akiko Morigami in the opening-round on Monday. Williams
had been sidelined with a wrist injury and hadn't played at a tournament since
appearing in Luxembourg last October.
In the other second-round result Tuesday, American Meilen Tu upset eighth-
seeded compatriot Jill Craybas 6-3, 6-1.
Top-seeded Shahar Peer of Israel was an opening-round winner Tuesday, as Peer
handled Finn Emma Laine 6-4, 6-3 at The Racquet Club of Memphis. Fourth-seeded
Aussie Samantha Stosur reached the second round by topping Canadian Aleksandra
Wozniak 6-2, 7-5.
Swede Sofia Arvidsson topped Russia's Ekaterina Bychkova 6-3, 0-6, 6-4.
Arvidsson downed Poland's Marta Domachowska in last year's finale here.
Additional first-round wins came for France's Camille Pin, Venezuelan Milagros
Sequera and Slovakian Jarmila Gajdosova.
The 2007 Memphis titlist will collect $25,840.
