Suns need OT to pull out tough road win in Houston

01/31/2010 -
Houston, TX (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Amare Stoudemire poured in a season-high 36
points and the Suns hit 7-of-8 at the foul line in overtime, as Phoenix gutted
out a tough road win, 115-111, over the Houston Rockets.
Stoudemire added 11 rebounds and was 12-for-12 at the line before fouling out
in overtime. Grant Hill added 19 points and Steve Nash hit some timely shots
to finish with 11 points, 16 assists and eight boards as Phoenix kicked off a
four-game road trip with its first win away from the desert in six tries.
Robin Lopez and Jared Dudley scored 14 and 13 points, respectively, for the
Suns, who have only four wins in their last 11 contests.
Aaron Brooks had 24 points and six assists for the Rockets, who fell to 1-4 on
a six-game homestand that wraps up Tuesday against Golden State. Trevor Ariza
contributed 21 points and hit a game-tying three near the end of regulation to
force extra time.
Luis Scola and Carl Landry went for 17 and 16 points, respectively, in the
loss.
With the game tied at 97 and 1:17 left to play in regulation, Nash was left
wide open and dropped a three from the right wing to put Phoenix on top.
Houston then turned it over on a backcourt violation with 47.6 seconds to go,
but breathed new life after a Channing Frye three came up short and Shane
Battier secured the rebound with 26.1 ticks showing.
Robin Lopez blocked a Landry's layup attempt to force a jump ball, won by
Houston, and the ball found its way to Ariza in the right corner for a three-
pointer that tied the game at 100 with 11.3 on the clock.
The Suns had one last chance for a game-winning shot, but Nash's off-balance
shot never came anywhere near the cylinder.
Stoudemire scored the first points of overtime before fouling out shortly
thereafter, and Frye made 3-of-4 at the line around a Jason Richardson basket
to give Phoenix a 109-105 lead with 1:14 left.
Richardson then answered a Brooks deuce with one of his own to keep the
visitors in front by four with 49.7 to go. A Brooks free throw and Scola's
hook shot made it a one-point game, but following a Richardson miss, Brooks
couldn't get a driving layup to fall.
Dudley was fouled and sank two clutch free throws with 5.3 ticks on the clock
for a 113-110 affair. The Suns smartly fouled Brooks before he could get a
shot off on the ensuing possession; he made the first and intentionally fired
the second straight into the rim. It came right back to him in the lane, but
the referees called a lane violation for leaving too early, and Nash iced the
game with two from the stripe at the other end.
The Suns jumped on top 21-8 in the early going before settling on a 28-21 lead
after the opening 12 minutes of play. Phoenix surged again to begin the second
and built up a 14-point advantage five minutes in before taking a 60-48 lead
into the break.
Trailing by 13 early in the third, Houston ripped off 11 straight points as
part of a 16-2 run that yielded a 69-68 lead on a Scola bucket with 3:15
remaining. A quick 9-0 burst over the final two minutes of the frame had the
Suns ahead 79-73.

Kurt Warner to start, Matt Leinart to watch
Despite the debate that's swirling , Kurt Warner will remain the starting quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals, coach Dennis Green said today. The Arizona Cardinals are the +7 point underdog at online sportsbook MySportsbook.com for this Sunday's game.
Green's comment came in a statement released by the team following an ESPN report that Green decided that rookie Matt Leinart would replace Warner as starter for Sunday's game at Atlanta.
"Generally talking about the starting lineup is not something we do," Green told the AP. "However, given the speculation that was out there we want to make it clear. We're disappointed after last week, but we still expect to be a playoff football team and we fully expect Kurt Warner to be the quarterback that leads us. That has not changed."
