Sixers and Hornets meet in Big Easy
Basketball Betting Lines
02/05/2010 -
(Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Philadelphia 76ers will try for their first three-game
winning streak of the season when they pay a visit to the New Orleans Hornets
Friday night in the Big Easy.
The 76ers posted their second straight win for the fifth time this season last
night with a 106-103 overtime triumph versus the Chicago Bulls at the Wachovia
Center. Andre Iguodala finished with 25 points, eight rebounds and eight
assists and buried the go-ahead three-pointer late in OT for the Sixers, who
last won three in a row from March 31 - April 4, 2009.
Elton Brand had 26 points and nine boards, while Samuel Dalembert chipped in
10 points and 13 rebounds in a winning effort. Brand is averaging 19.3 ppg
over the past six games and Dalembert has grabbed 10-plus boards in 12
straight games, the longest stretch of his career. Willie Green netted 15
points in Wednesday's win.
"That's a nice win...It's nice to get two in a row," Green said.
Philadelphia will also pay a visit to Houston and owns a 9-15 ledger away from
the City of Brotherly Love this season. Sixers guard Allen Iverson missed the
win over Chicago to tend to his sick son and is listed as probable for Friday.
In 25 games since his return to Philly, Iverson has averaged 14.4 ppg.
The Hornets, meanwhile, continue to toil without top guard Chris Paul the last
three games and hope to close out a three-game homestand on a winning note.
They have lost the first two tests of this residency and three straight
overall as the host, including Wednesday's 103-99 setback versus the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Marcus Thornton scored 22 points to lead the Hornets, who have lost three of
four overall. Peja Stojakovic and David West each provided 15 points, while
Emeka Okafor had 14 points and 12 rebounds in defeat. Darren Collison has been
filling in for Paul and recorded nine points and nine assists. The rookie
Collison is averaging 14.6 points, 8.4 assists and 3.4 rebounds per game in 11
games as a starter.
"We just couldn't make plays down the stretch to close the game out," West
said. "We tried to come out and be aggressive, but it just went in a different
direction in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately, we couldn't pull it out."
James Posey had eight points and season-highs with 10 rebounds and six assists
for New Orleans, which announced Wednesday that Paul would undergo knee
surgery and miss an extended amount of time. Also, Thornton is questionable
for Friday's game with a bruised lower back.
Philadelphia defeated New Orleans, 96-92, on January 11 this season at the
Wachovia Center behind Dalembert's go-ahead shot with 25.5 seconds remaining
in the game. The win snapped a four-game slide in the series for the 76ers,
who have dropped two straight and 22 of their last 28 at the Hornets.
